Control the center, develop knights and bishops, and castle early. Avoid sending the queen deep into enemy territory just to win a pawn.
Before every move, check: am I in check, which pieces are attacked, and what checks, captures, or threats will the opponent gain after my move?

Which chess rules are implemented?＋
The game includes standard movement for every piece, check, checkmate, stalemate, castling, en passant, pawn promotion, and the fifty-move draw rule. Pawns automatically promote to a queen for quick child-friendly play.
How do the five AI difficulties differ?＋
Novice and Beginner retain more variety among playable moves. Intermediate starts calculating replies, Advanced selects top evaluations more consistently, and Master searches further ahead with greater attention to checks, exchanges, and piece safety. Each band has 20 levels, for 100 total.
Does two-player mode require the internet?＋
No. Two people alternate White and Black on the same device, and all game calculations run locally in the browser.
Why can the king sometimes not capture a nearby piece?＋
A king may never move onto an attacked square. Even if an enemy piece occupies the destination, the capture is illegal when another enemy piece would still control that square. Only legal destinations are highlighted.
When is castling allowed?＋
Neither the king nor the chosen rook may have moved, the squares between them must be empty, the king cannot currently be in check, and no square crossed or reached by the king may be attacked.
How are daily and shared challenges kept consistent?＋
The UTC date fixes the daily level, difficulty, and opening variation. A shared link stores the level and random seed, so friends receive the same starting position and AI strength.
Does Hint play the move for me?＋
No. Hint highlights a recommended piece and destination while leaving the final move to the player, preserving the thinking process.
